Getting started

What is the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code?

A static code stores your content (a link, Wi-Fi details, a contact card) directly in the pattern. It is made in your browser, needs no account, never expires and can't be changed after printing.

A dynamic code stores a short QuickQRC link that forwards to your destination. Because the forwarding happens on our server, you can change the destination after printing and see scan statistics. Dynamic codes need a free account.

Read more in why static QR codes and the dynamic QR code generator.

How do I make my first QR code?

  1. Open the generator and pick a content type, for example URL or Wi-Fi.
  2. Fill in the fields. The preview updates as you type.
  3. Optionally style it in the Design step: frame, shape, logo and error-correction level.
  4. Download as PNG, SVG, PDF or EPS.

Scan the downloaded file with your own phone before you print it.

Do I need an account?

Not for static codes. All static types are free with no sign-up and no watermark. You need a free account only for dynamic codes, hosted pages and scan statistics. The free plan includes 5 dynamic codes and has no end date.

Which QR code type should I use?

Use the type that matches what the person scanning should get: URL for a web page, Wi-Fi to join a network, vCard to save a contact, Email or SMS to start a pre-filled message. Payment types such as UPI, PIX and EPC/SEPA open the person's banking app. The full list with examples is on QR code types.

Are static QR codes really free forever?

Yes. The data lives in the pattern itself, so there is no server to switch off and nothing for us to expire. You can make as many as you like and use them commercially.

Your account

How do I create an account?

Go to Create account and sign up with your email and a password, or with Google or Microsoft. We send a confirmation email; confirm your address before you start creating dynamic codes.

I didn't get the confirmation email

Check your spam or promotions folder first. If it isn't there, sign in and use Resend confirmation on your profile page. Make sure the address on your profile is spelled correctly; you can change it there too.

I forgot my password

Use Forgot password on the sign-in page. We email you a reset link. If you signed up with Google or Microsoft, use that button to sign in instead; you can add a password later from Change password.

How do I change my name, email or profile photo?

Open Profile from the account menu. A new email address must be confirmed before it is used for sign-in.

Can I link Google or Microsoft sign-in to an existing account?

Yes. Sign in, then go to Connected accounts and link the provider. You can unlink it there too, as long as you keep at least one way to sign in.

How do I delete my account?

In the dashboard, open Settings and scroll to Delete account. You confirm by typing your email address and current password. Deleting removes your codes, hosted pages and uploads, and any printed dynamic codes stop working, so download anything you need first. Cancel a paid plan before you delete.

Plans and limits

What does each plan include?

Free: 5 dynamic codes, 1 hosted page, analytics kept 3 months, 100 MB storage.

Pro: 100 dynamic codes, 10 hosted pages, analytics kept 1 year, 2 GB storage, password-protected codes, bulk CSV import and CSV export.

Business: everything in Pro with 500 dynamic codes, 10 team seats and 10 GB storage.

The live list is on the pricing page.

Is there a free trial?

There is no trial clock. The Free plan is permanent, so you can use dynamic codes for as long as you like and upgrade only if you need more.

What happens when I reach my plan's limit?

Codes you already have keep working. You just can't create new codes, hosted pages, uploads or team seats beyond the limit until you delete some or upgrade. Your usage is shown in the dashboard sidebar.

Is there a limit on scans?

No plan caps scans. If you want a cap on one code, for a limited offer for example, set a scan limit on that code yourself.

Do you have plans for larger organisations?

Yes. For single sign-on, higher limits or invoicing needs, contact us about an Enterprise plan.

Billing and subscriptions

How do I pay, and who charges me?

Paid plans will be sold through Paddle, our payment partner and merchant of record. Online checkout isn't open yet; the Free plan works now, and you can contact us if you need a paid plan sooner.

Can I pay monthly or yearly?

Both. Yearly billing costs less per month: Pro is $4.49/month billed yearly instead of $4.99 monthly, and Business is $32 instead of $39. Plans renew automatically until you cancel.

How do I upgrade or downgrade?

Open Account in the dashboard and choose the new plan. Paddle works out any proration and shows it before you confirm.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open Account and manage your subscription. You keep paid features until the end of the period you've paid for, then the account moves to Free. Your dynamic codes keep redirecting.

Where are my invoices, and how do I add a company name or VAT number?

Invoices come from Paddle by email and are also available from the billing portal on the Account page. Add a company name, country, tax ID and an invoice email under Settings → Billing details.

Can I get a refund?

Renewal charges and part-used periods aren't refunded, except where the law requires it. If something went wrong, such as a duplicate payment or a renewal you meant to cancel and didn't use, contact us within 14 days. Full details are in the terms.

My payment failed. What happens?

Paddle retries the payment for a while. If it still can't be collected, the subscription is cancelled and the account moves to Free. Your codes keep redirecting; you can update your card from the billing portal and upgrade again.

Managing your QR codes

Can I change where a printed QR code goes?

Only if it's a dynamic code. In the dashboard, edit the code and change its destination; the printed pattern stays the same and the next scan goes to the new link. A static code can't be changed, so you would need to print a new one.

How do I organise codes into folders?

Use New folder in the dashboard sidebar, then move codes into it. Rename or delete a folder from its ⋮ menu. A folder has to be empty before you can delete it.

Can a code expire or start on a set date?

Yes. Give a dynamic code an expiry date and it stops redirecting after that date; people who scan see a page saying the code has expired. You can also schedule a start date so it only goes live later. Both are free on every plan.

Can I limit how many times a code is scanned?

Yes. Set a scan limit on the code. Once it's reached, scans stop going through to your destination. This is handy for limited offers or one-off tickets.

Can iPhone and Android users go to different links?

Yes. Add an iOS link and an Android link to a dynamic code and each phone goes to its own link, usually the App Store or Google Play page, with your main destination as the fallback for everything else.

Can I password-protect a code?

On Pro and Business, yes. People must enter the password before the destination opens. If the account later moves to a plan without this feature, protected codes show an “unavailable” page until you upgrade again; the password is kept.

Can I create many codes at once?

For static codes, use the free bulk generator with a CSV file. For dynamic codes, Pro and Business can import a CSV from Bulk create in the dashboard.

What happens if I delete a dynamic code?

The short link stops working straight away and any printed copies will no longer reach your destination. Uploaded files that belonged to it are removed. Deleting can't be undone.

Will my QR codes stop working if I stop paying?

No. Static codes have no server behind them, so there's nothing to switch off. Dynamic codes keep redirecting after a paid plan ends; features your new plan doesn't include pause until you renew, but we never deactivate a printed code for not paying.

Designing your QR codes

How can I customise how my code looks?

In the generator's Design step you can change colours and gradients, module and corner shapes, add a logo and a frame with a call to action, and choose the error-correction level. Dynamic codes keep their saved design, so you can download it again later from the dashboard.

Which file format should I download?

Use SVG for print and design tools; it's a true vector and scales to any size. PNG works for web pages, documents and social posts. PDF and EPS are offered for print workflows that ask for them, but they contain a high-resolution image rather than vector paths.

Which colours are safe?

Keep the code dark on a light background with strong contrast. Light-on-dark and low-contrast pairs fail on many phone cameras. The contrast checker tells you whether a colour pair is safe.

How big should I print it?

A common rule is that the code should be about a tenth of the scanning distance wide, and never smaller than about 2 cm. Leave a clear margin (the quiet zone) around it. Preview it in place with the mockup placer before printing.

Tracking and statistics

What scan data do I get?

For dynamic codes: scans by day, device, operating system, country and city. Free keeps statistics 3 months, Pro 1 year. Open Stats in the dashboard. We don't store IP addresses, and the person scanning gets no tracking cookies of ours.

Can I see scans of a static code?

No. A static code goes straight from the phone to your content without passing through any server, so nobody can count it. If you need statistics, use a dynamic code, or add UTM tags to your link with the UTM builder and read them in your own analytics.

Can I add Google Analytics, Tag Manager or Meta Pixel?

Yes. Connect your IDs under Integrations (Google Analytics, Google Ads or Meta Pixel) and they apply to all your codes and hosted pages, or set them on a single code. You can also send a click event when people tap links on hosted pages.

Can I export my data?

Pro and Business can download the code list and scan data as CSV with Export CSV in the dashboard.

Scanning problems

My QR code won't scan. What should I check?

  • Contrast: dark code, light background.
  • Quiet zone: a clear margin on all sides.
  • Size: big enough for the scanning distance.
  • Logo: not too large for the error-correction level.
  • Print: no blur, glare or curved surfaces.

Run the file through the QR validator and the scannability tester to find the cause.

Why do people see a page before reaching my link?

Normally they shouldn't: static and dynamic codes go straight to your destination.

A page can also appear when the code is password-protected, has expired, hasn't reached its start date or has hit its scan limit. Check the code's settings in the dashboard.

How do people scan a code without an app?

Most iPhones and Android phones read QR codes from the built-in camera. On a computer, or to check an image file, use our online QR scanner.

How can I check if a QR code is safe?

Decode it first and look at where it really goes. The security scanner flags common tricks, and the QR safety guide covers what to watch for.

Security and teams

How do I turn on two-factor authentication?

Open your profile and set up two-factor authentication with an authenticator app. Save the recovery codes somewhere safe; they are the only way back in if you lose your phone.

How do I invite team members?

On plans with more than one seat (Pro: 3 users, Business: 10 users), open Team and send an invite by email. The invite link lets them join your account with their own sign-in.

Do you support single sign-on (SSO)?

Yes, on Enterprise. Connect SAML or OpenID Connect through WorkOS, or your own OIDC provider, and require your team to sign in through it. Contact us to set it up.

What data do you keep about people who scan my codes?

Only what's needed for statistics, without IP addresses. Static codes send us nothing at all. The scan privacy policy explains it for the people scanning, and the privacy policy covers account holders.

API and developers

How do I use the QuickQRC API?

Create a key under API keys in the dashboard, then follow the API documentation, which has code samples in several languages. Free accounts get 1,000 requests a month, Pro 25,000.

I think my API key leaked. What should I do?

Go to API keys and rotate or revoke it straight away. Rotating gives you a new key and stops the old one working.

Still stuck?

Send a message with your account email and, if it's about a code, its short link. A real person reads every message.
