How do you make a Reddit QR code?
- Choose Profile or Subreddit in the Link To menu.
- Type the name. Prefixes such as

The last row is easy to overlook. A profile or subreddit link is a front door. If the point of the poster is "come join tonight's AMA", the person scanning wants the thread, and the thread's own address is the right thing to encode.
Which communities are visible to a scanner?
- Public subreddits open for anyone, including visitors without an account.
- Restricted subreddits can usually be viewed but not posted in by the general public.
- Private subreddits show a prompt rather than content; use them only if your audience already has access, or a code is pointless.
Visibility depends on each community's settings, so scan the final print from a signed-out browser.
What should you watch out for?
- Self-promotion rules. Many subreddits restrict promotional posts. A QR code in the real world avoids that, but a wave of new members arriving from it should be welcomed by the moderators, so tell them.
- Renamed or banned accounts. The code stores a name, not an internal ID. If a username changes, is suspended, or a subreddit is renamed or removed, printed codes fail.
