A Telegram QR code from this generator encodes https://t.me/<username>, which opens the matching user, bot, group, or channel in Telegram when scanned. Telegram usernames are 5 to 32 characters using Latin letters, digits, and underscores, and the link works whether or not the scanner has the app installed.

The code is generated in your browser. It is static, free, and does not expire.

How do you make a Telegram QR code?

  1. Enter the public username in the Telegram Username field. A leading @ is removed for you, and you can paste a full t.me link instead.
  2. Style the code and download it as PNG or SVG.
  3. Scan it with a phone that is not signed in as the target account.

For quickqrc_demo the code holds:

https://t.me/quickqrc_demo

What can the link point to?

A t.me/<name> address is the same for every public Telegram entity that has a username, so one code type covers several cases.

TargetExample linkWhat the scanner sees
Persont.me/yournameYour profile, with a button to message you
Public channelt.me/yourchannelA preview and a Join button
Public groupt.me/yourgroupA preview and a Join button
Bott.me/yourbotThe bot's start screen
Private group invitet.me/+AbCdEf…An invite prompt; paste the whole link so the + is kept

Older private invites use the t.me/joinchat/… pattern. This generator keeps only the last part of a pasted link, so for those invites use the URL QR code generator and paste the full address, or regenerate the invite in the newer t.me/+… form.

Are Telegram usernames the same as display names?

No. The username is the unique handle beginning with @ in your profile settings, and it is what the link uses. The display name is what other people see in chat lists. If you have not set a username, there is no public link to encode. Set one in Telegram's settings first, then generate the code.

What are the privacy trade-offs?

The link exposes only the username, not your phone number, provided your Telegram privacy settings hide the number. Anyone who scans can message you, though, subject to your privacy settings for who may contact you. For a code on a public flyer, consider a business account or a dedicated support bot instead of your personal handle, since a handle on a poster is visible to every passer-by.

A username can be changed. When it is, printed links break, and the freed name could be taken by someone else. That is a reason to use a channel or group username you control long term, instead of a personal one that may change.

Is this better than a WhatsApp code?

It depends on where your audience already is. Telegram is stronger for communities, announcement channels, and bots. For one-to-one customer chat in most markets, compare with the WhatsApp QR code. Our guide to QR codes for Telegram covers use cases such as community onboarding.

How do you test it?

Scan with iOS and Android, once with Telegram installed and once without. Confirm the preview shows the right channel or profile name, and check that the code is at least the starting size suggested in the print size guide. The QR validator flags contrast and quiet-zone issues in the exported file.

Telegram's FAQ describes usernames as 5 to 32 characters using Latin letters, digits, and underscores. Without a username there is no public link to encode.

Yes, if you paste the newer t.me/+ style link so the plus sign is kept. Older t.me/joinchat/ links are shortened by this generator, so use the URL QR code generator for those.

The link contains only your username. Whether people can see your number depends on your Telegram privacy settings. For public posters, consider a channel or support bot instead of a personal handle.
